Lab Grown Diamonds are just like test tube babies grown from a single seed of Diamond under the same heat and pressure like in the crust of mother earth. Lab Grown Diamonds are grown by recreating the conditions underneath the Earth that result in diamond growth: pressure, heat & carbon. The process to grow a diamond in a laboratory is very similar to the geological growth process. The same types of inclusions and imperfections present in mined diamonds can also occur in lab diamonds. Lab diamonds are graded by the exact same independent geological laboratories that also grade mined diamonds.

Because the process is similar to natural diamond growth, there are still variations in color and clarity of lab grown diamonds. In other words, not all lab grown diamonds are colorless and flawless.

Unlike diamond simulants, such as cubic zirconia and moissanite, lab diamonds have the same scintillation, flash, fire and brilliance as mined diamonds. Lab diamonds do not fade or change color over time.

A Lab Grown diamond is a real diamond, even the most sophisticated gem laboratories certify it as diamonds. The only difference is the origin of these diamonds, instead of being mined from the earth they are Grown under controlled environment in a lab.

Matthew’s Jewelers is happy to bring our clients another choice when it comes to diamonds. We now carry a large inventory of Lab Grown diamonds in all shapes and sizes. Each stone is certified using the same gemological laboratories as mined diamonds. Lab Grown diamonds are graded using the same 4c’s (cut, clarity, color and carat).

Some may debate which type of diamond is “better” but in reality, mined and lab-created diamonds aren’t in competition with one another. It is a personal choice. Diamonds represent love, and love is love!
